What is the Shahadah?
the declaration of faith, saying ‘there is no other god than Allah, Muhammed is his messenger
Why is the Shahadah important?
it is the central belief of Islam affirming the monotheistic belief and prophethood of Muhammed. Signifies the acceptance of Islam.
What are the practices of the Shahadah?
Recite the Shahadah with conviction to convert to Islam. Repeated in daily prayers and significant occasions.
What is the salah?
the performance of ritual prayers five times a day at certain times
why is the salah important?
its a direct link between the worshipper and Allah. constant reminder of faith and obedience
what the practices of the salah?
Muslims pray five times daily: at dawn (Fajr), noon (Dhuhr), mid-afternoon (Asr), sunset (Maghrib), and night (Isha).
What is Zakat?
The giving of a fixed portion of one’s wealth to charity
Why is the Zakat important?
Zakat purifies wealth by recognizing that all things belong to Allah.
What are the practices of the Zakat?
Muslims calculate their zakat annually and distribute it to people in need, including the poor, orphans, and those in debt. This act often intensifies during Ramadan.
What is Sawm?
Fasting during the month of Ramadan from dawn to sunset.
What are the practices of Sawm?
Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, from dawn until sunset. The daily fast is broken with a meal called Iftar. The end of Ramadan is celebrated with the festival of Eid al-Fitr, marked by communal prayers, feasting, and giving charity.
Why is Sawm important?
Sawm fosters self-discipline, self-control, and empathy for the less fortunate. It is a time for spiritual reflection, increased devotion, and worship.
What is Hajj?
The pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca, required at least once in a lifetime for those who are physically and financially able.
Why is the Hajj important?
Hajj represents the ultimate act of worship and submission to Allah. It commemorates the trials of one of the prophets and his family and shows unity and equality among Muslims.
