Salat is the Second pillar of Islam and means Prayer in English.

Suggest what Salat is about!

A

Muslims pray 5 times a day. When Muslims pray they face Makkah (pronounced Mekkah). Before Muslims pray they complete Wudu which is a special washing so that Muslims are clean when they speak to Allah. It also gives them time to forget what they were doing and to focus on Allah. When Muslims are praying they also complete Rak’ah which is the set of positions for Muslim prayers (a series of actions which helps them to remember the order of the prayer.

Zakah is the third pillar of Islam and means Charity in English.

A

Zakah should be 2.5% of a persons wealth. If a Muslim is too poor to give money, he or she can perform the Zakah through good deeds.

Zakah can also be spelt ‘Zakat’ and means ‘Almsgiving.’

Sawm is the fourth pillar of Islam and means Fasting in English.

A

Sawm is fasting from just before dawn until sunset. Abstinence from all food and drink as well as smoking. ‘O believers, you must fast so that you may learn self-restraint. Fasting is prescribed for you during a certain number of days.’

A

Everyone takes part, except… children under 12 or 14 (puberty), Pregnant and nursing mothers, Sick people-if it would cause real pain or suffering and also women during confinement of menstruation. Days missed should be made up for later. Those not fasting should give food to the poor!
