Q

Explain 2 Muslim beliefs about God as one

A

Firstly, Muslims are strict monotheists upholding the oneness of God which they call ‘tawhid’. The Shahadah, the first of the 5 pillars of faith states, ‘There is no God but Allah’. This creed is declared up to five times a day during Muslim prayer, and are the first words whispered into a baby’s ear at birth showing the importance of the belief.
Secondly, Muslims believe that to compare anything to God is to commit an unforgivable sin. The Qur’an states, ‘Indeed, Allah does not forgive associating others with Him’. This sin is called ‘Shirk’. Muslims believe that it is an insult to compare God to anything else as he is omnipotent and transcendent.
