Q
Calcium channel blockers in IHD
Which type of Ca2+ channel blockers are indicated and any?
Contraindications of Ca2+ in the treatment of refractory angina?
A
Rate limiting calcium channel blockers are indicated as they do not induce reflex tachycardia - which would increase cardiac workload and decrease flow to the coronary arteries.
In refractory angina beta blockers should NOT be used in combination with verapamil as the negative ionotopic effects of the drug can cause cardiac arrest - proving potentially fatal.
