IS3110 CHAP 7 Flashcards
The process of determining the fair market value of an asset. You can determine the value of the asset from the actual cost. You can also determine the value based on what the asset provides to the organization
Asset management
A comprehensive plan that helps a company prepare for different types of emergencies. The goal is to ensure that mission-critical functions continue to operate even after a disaster strikes.
Business continuity plan BCP
Part of the BCP. It identifies the impact to the business if one or more IT functions fails.
Business impact analysis BIA
The process of retrieving data from a data warehouse. It allows decision makers to view the data from different perspectives. Decision-makers can also use it to make predictions about future behavior or outcomes.
Data mining
The process of gathering data from different databases and storing them centrally. An extract, transform, load (ETL) process is used. Data is extracted from the original database. It is then transformed to match the target database. Finally, it is loaded into the target database.
Data warehousing
A plan used to recover a system or systems after a disaster. It is part of the BCP
Disaster recovery plan DRP
A technology used to ensure a service can continue to run even if a server fails. It has at least two servers. One server is active. The second server is inactive but available to take over if the active server fails.
Failover cluster
Data created by a person or an organization. It can include creative works such as literary, musical, or artistic. It can also include industrial designs, trademarks, inventions, and patents.
Intellectual property (IP)
Used to manage hardware inventories. Basic information is included, such as model numbers, serial numbers, and locations.
Inventory management
Rotating employees through different jobs. This results in additional oversight for past transactions. It can help prevent or reduce fraudulent activity such as collusion. It can also increase technical expertise on specific systems.
Job rotation
A group of updates, patches, and fixes that apply to a specific operating system. Most are cumulative. They include all the updates, patches, and fixes since the operating system was first released.
Service pack SP
The failure of any single component that can result in the total loss of a system. It is typically addressed by adding redundancy. For example, a disk drive can be protected with a RAID configuration.
Single point of failure
- It is possible to ensure a service is operational 99.999 percent of the time even if a server needs to be regularly rebooted.
