What are the clinical features of irritable bowel syndrome?
A
- typically younger women (21-40)
- may follow attack of gastroenteritis
- cramping abdominal pain
- pain usually relieved by passing flatus or by defecation
- variable bowel habit
- diarrhoea usually worse in the mornings
- bloating, abdominal distension, borgorygmi
- tiredness common
