Iron deficiency Anaemia Flashcards

1
Q

Iron absorption

A

Iron absorbed in duodenum fe 2+ via DMT1
ferroportin transports iron into blood stream
converted back to fe3+ and bound by transferrin

hepcidin is a negative regulator of ferrportin

iron stored by liver and macrophages. express transferrin receptor

released in response to low hepcidin via ferroportin
