WHAT ARE THE TWO TYPES OF IRON?
A
HEME….found in animal products: meat, poultry, and fish. Despite being only 10-15 percent of the iron found in food, it makes up about one-third of what we absorb.
NON-HEME….found in plants, dairy and some meats. Unlike heme iron, nonhdme iron absorption is greatly influenced by food components in the same meal.
