IQ2 Flashcards
What is Aerobic exercise?
Exercise performed at a continuous intensity throughout, with no rest periods.
Examples include running, cycling, swimming, and rowing.
Who would benefit from Aerobic exercise?
Athletes such as swimmers, runners, and cyclists.
What is Fartlek training?
Alternating high intensity workouts while including a slow training style.
An example is changing running paces.
Who would benefit from Fartlek training?
Long distance runners and soccer players.
What is Aerobic Interval training?
Altering between moderate and high intensity with a recovery interval.
An example is a striker using a short burst of energy to score a goal and then jogging afterwards.
Who would benefit from Aerobic Interval training?
Distance runners, soccer players, and basketball players.
What is Circuit training?
Uses endurance and high-intensity exercises to improve muscular endurance.
Examples include jumping jacks, skipping, and lunges.
Who would benefit from Circuit training?
Boxers and individuals focused on general fitness.
What is Anaerobic Interval training?
Short moments of high intensity exercise with short periods of rest, improving speed, power, and muscular endurance.
An example is an athlete sprinting for 100m with a 20 second rest period.
Who would benefit from Anaerobic Interval training?
Sprinters and boxers.
What is Static flexibility?
Stretching that is uncomfortable but not painful, usually held for 30-60 seconds.
An example is touching your toes.
Who would benefit from Static flexibility?
Gymnasts and bodybuilders.
What is Ballistic flexibility?
Bouncing at the end of a motion, activating stretching reflexes, but it has risks.
Examples include leg swings, toe touches, and deep squats.
Who would benefit from Ballistic flexibility?
Dancers, football players, and basketball players.
What is PNF flexibility?
Static stretching for about 30 seconds, followed by a contraction.
An example is putting a leg on a chair and stretching for 30 seconds.
Who would benefit from PNF flexibility?
Athletes whose joints can be taken beyond their range of motion.
What is Dynamic flexibility?
A series of movements that takes muscles through a wide range of motion, usually for warm-ups.
An example is a walking lunge.
Who would benefit from Dynamic flexibility?
Baseball, softball, and track runners.
What is Free/fixed weights strength training?
Targets a muscle using strict form and requires balancing weight.
Examples include machine weights and dumbbells.
Who would benefit from Free/fixed weights strength training?
Rowers.
What is Elastic strength training?
Uses elastic resistive bands to help with strength.
An example is crab walks with a band.
Who would benefit from Elastic strength training?
Swimmers and track and field athletes.
What is Hydraulic strength training?
Machines that use water or air compression.
An example is the leg press.
Who would benefit from Hydraulic strength training?
Powerlifters and rugby players.
