IQ: RIP Flashcards
1
Q
IQ is a
A
composite or average of many test scores
2
Q
Cognitive abilities involved in WAIS subtests are fairly ___ and do not have a
A
dissimilar, and do not have a systematic neuropsych or neuronaatomic relationship to each other
3
Q
Combining scores from multiple tests results in
A
loss of data and the average may not accurately reflect any of the individual test performances
4
Q
Averages can
A
obscure areas and patterns of cog deficit
5
Q
VIQ-PIQ
A
In general, left brain damage results in lower VIQ
-but VIQ may be unaffected by left injury
Decreased PIQ most pronounced after right injury
- but because of the timed nature of many tests it can be affected by bilateral or diffuse injury
- left parietal damage can result in construction deficits which affect PIQ
- perf. tests are novel and more sensitive to brain injury anywhere because of reduced processing efficiency
- In some studies significant changes in IQ are not even found after brain injury
- IQ scores have little if any use in neuropsych assessment
