Q

VIQ-PIQ

A

In general, left brain damage results in lower VIQ
-but VIQ may be unaffected by left injury

Decreased PIQ most pronounced after right injury

  • but because of the timed nature of many tests it can be affected by bilateral or diffuse injury
  • left parietal damage can result in construction deficits which affect PIQ
  • perf. tests are novel and more sensitive to brain injury anywhere because of reduced processing efficiency
  • In some studies significant changes in IQ are not even found after brain injury
  • IQ scores have little if any use in neuropsych assessment
