What devices make up the device layer of IoT architecture?
Sensors, mobile devices, microcontroller units, networking gear, and single board computers
What is involved in the communication layer of the IoT architecture?
Protocols, such as TCP/IP based architecture. And gateways that help to manage traffic between devices and networks.
What level of gateway is helpful in monitoring and maintaining traffic

What does the cloud layer do with data?
Accept, store, and analyze
What does the cloud layer provide through it’s dashboards
The ability to monitor, analyze, and implement proactive decisions
What does the process layer do
Gathers and processes the received information
What does the process layer include
People, Businesses, collaborations, and decisions based on information derived from the policies and procedures of IoT computing
What constitutes an IoT thing
Any device that gathers and transmits data, related to it’s sensors which track parameters about it’s local environment.
How does an IoT thing transmit its data
Through a gateway to the cloud, utilizing either a wired or wireless protocol
What does the gateway/control tier focus on
Communication, offloading processing functions, and the driving of required actions
Sensing technology
Sensors embedded in devices that aquire different information depending on the device. Temperature, gases, location, working on industrial machines, or the health data of a patient.
IoT gateway
Used to bridge the gap between the IoT device and the end user for communication and data processing
Cloud server/ data storage
Collected data after traveling through gateway arrives at the cloud where it is stored and subjected to data analysis. Processed data is transmitted to user who takes action based on info received
Remote control using mobile apps
End user utilizes remote control devices on mobile devices, in order to monitor, receive data from, and take actions on IoT devices from a remote location
Building service sectors
App groups: commercial, industrial
Locations: office, education, retail, hospitality, healthcare, airports, stadiums
Devices: HVAC systems, transport, fire and safety, lighting, security, access, ect.
