1
Q
What are the three beta-blockers that can be used for heart failure?
A
Bisoprolol, sustained release metoprolol and carvedilol.
2
Q
How does Digoxin work?
A
It inhibits the Na/K/ATPase pump, which causes intracellular Na to increase, which then causes intracellular Ca to increase via the Na/Ca exchange pump.
3
Q
What is the problem with Digoxin?
A
It has a very narrow therapeutic window.
4
Q
What is Milrinone? Why is it rarely used?
A
It is a phosphodiesterase IIIa inhibitor which inhibits cAMP breakdown.
It increases the number of hypotensive events and atrial arrhythmias and had no impact on the number of days in the hospital.
