Ionic Radius Flashcards

1
Q

Definition of ionic radius

A

There are two kinds of ionic radius’s.
Cations - positive ion -
atomic structure with have more protons (+) than electrons (-) Radius is smaller - greater pull from protons on electrons
Anions - negative ion - atomic structure will have more electrons (-) than protons (+)
Radius is larger - weaker pull from protons on the electrons and more repulsive forces between electrons if there is more than one orbit
