Ion Concentration Flashcards
1
Q
Steps-
A
1- write balanced chemical dissociation equation
2- convert any mass into moles
3- calculate the initial molar concentration of your solute
4- establish the ion concentration ratio (from your balanced dissociation equation)
5- multiply your initial molar concentration by the ion concentration ratio
2
Q
Example
A
Step 1- ba(oh) -> ba2+ + 2OH-
Step 2- convert to moles- 0.31mol
Step 3- 0.31mol / 1L = 0.31mol/L
Step 4- 2mol (OH) / 1mol (Ba)
Step 5- 0.31mol/l x 2/1

Q
Ion concentration defenitiom
A
Ionic compounds dissociate in a solution to form their constituent ions
