Q

How does Orwell use storytelling as a persuasive technique?

A

A Hanging - The story of the person going to their execution. Various twists used throughout help to shake up the emotions of the reader (the careless attitude of the prison employees).

Shooting an Elephant - Tells the story of hunting down an Elephant. Persuasive because once an understanding of the elephant as a symbol for imperialism, Orwell’s train of thought helps to provide perspective for the reader.

How the Poor Die - Graphic descriptions of his time in Hospital X. Make the reader cringe at the images.
