Q

What is a gas?

A

A gas occupies all the volume of the container it is in - no definite volume or shape. They also have mass and take up space.

16
Q

What is an example of insoluble mixture?

A

Water and sand

17
Q

Can mixtures be separated?

A

Yes

18
Q

What are some of the ways in which mixtures can be separated?

A

Mixtures can be separated using differences in physical properties of the components, such as size - large or small, different evaporation ability, floating or sinking, magnetic or non-magnetic.

19
Q

What is evaporation?

A

Evaporation is the change of state from liquid to gas.

20
Q

How can salt be separated from water in a salt water solution?

A

Through evaporation. Water evaporates, but salt doesn’t?

21
Q

How can a mixture of paper clips, toothpicks and sand be separated?

A

We can use a magnet to pick out all the paper clips since paper clips are magnetic. Sand and toothpick mixture can be separated using water. Toothpicks will float and sand will sink.
