Invertebrates Flashcards
Division of Labor
Cells in animals that perform a specific function
Characteristics of Animals (6)
- Multicelluar
- Heterotrophic (organism eats other plants/animals)
- Eukaryotic
- Reproduction - Primarily sexual
- Motility (some stay attached, uses muscle or muscle like tissue for movement)
- Development of high level organization & tissue differentiation
Development of high level organization & tissue differentiation
Groups of cell -> tissue -> organs/organ systems
Feeding (3 ways)
Herbivores
Carnivores
Filter Feeders (strain from water)
Respiration Method
Consume oxygen and give off CO2. Most evolved organisms have complex tissues/organ systems for respiration.
Chemical Excreted From Animals (and Why)
Ammonia - poisonous to organism. Contains nitrogen
Sessile vs Motile
Sessile - attached to one spot
Motile - require muscles to move
Endoskeleton vs. Exoskeleton
Endoskeleton - outside
Exoskeleton - inside
Direct Development vs Indirect Development
Direct - Babies look like mini adults
Indirect - Eggs to larvae, metamorphosis
