Who invented 4 fields farming, the effect and main crops?
Charles Townsend. It was the rotation of 4 crops and it improved soil fertility. This is due to if the crop stayed in one field it would suck out all the nutrients. The main crops were wheat, barley, corn and clover.
Who invented the mechanised hand loom and the effect of it?
John Kay. It increased profit, it was faster and had a lower price.
What was the spinning Jenny and who invented it?
James Hargraves. It was faster, labour cost was cheaper and there was no skill needed.
What was the enclosure movement?
This enabled land owners to close off large areas of land to enable 4 field farming. Farmers were kicked off their own land.
What was the water frame and its effect?
It was used to run water to run machinery, it increased speed and running water was in abundance.
Who invented the commercial steam engine and what were its effects?
James Watt and Matthew Bolton. This meant that factories could be located in more efficient locations.
What was rolling and puddling?
It took out impurities in iron making it stronger. It enabled iron rails for trains to be made.
What was the steam powered train?
This meant communication from far places was enabled and trade was more efficient. Trips were shorter and only a few days.
