PCI/Stent aftercare
• 1 night • back to work in 1 week • cardiac rehabilitation in 2 weeks
PCI/Stent long term
• PCI 30-35% re-stenosis - 6 months • STENT now used in most of PCIs as <20% restenosis - 6 months
CABG indications
• Left main stem or • Severe triple vessel disease • Impaired LV function • Diffuse CAD
CABG aftercare
• 4-7 days in hospital
• Off work 8-12 weeks
• Cardiac rehabilitation
after 6-8 weeks
CABG patency
• Vein graft 10 years
• IMAG 20+ years
• Radial artery similar to
IMAG
Return of symptoms post CABG
Ø90% complete relief from angina
Ø5% some relief from angina, but may recur within a few months or years
Ø5% no relief from angina but still have a better prognosis
Valves

Cardiac surgery complications
ØArrhythmias – AF very common
ØLoss of concentration, memory, mood swings, irritability,
weepy/emotional, frustration, feeling ‘low’, depressed

ØWound infections/healing (especially in diabetes)
ØPain control
ØConstipation/loss of appetite
ØNerve problems e.g. brachial nerve plexus
