Intuitionism Flashcards
What is intuitionism ?
The idea that moral truths can be discovered by using our mind in an intuitive way. This ability is innate and the same for everyone
Why is a mature mind needed ?
Intuition needs a mature mind as an infantile mind doesn’t have enough knowledge to recognise their intuitionism.
Why did G.E Moore criticise naturalism and what did he propose instead ?
He said it was guilty of the naturalistic fallacy - the theory that good cannot be defined - he proposed intuitionism (non naturalism) instead, he believed that the meaning of good is self evident.
What does our intuition produce ?
Self evident truths
What is moral intuition not !
It is not the same as knowledge gained though experience or a feelings it cannot be proven by senses
What is our intuition ?
Intuitionism is Immediate like a sort intellectual awareness
What is a self evident truth and how does it apply to intuitionism ?
A self evident truth is it’s own evidence and needs no evidence, our understanding/ intuition is the evidence
Why is good like the colour yellow ?
We all know what good is (intuition) however we cant describe it or define what it means.
