Intubating SAD Flashcards
What are the benefits of Intubating SADs?
-Ability to ventilate, then to attempt either a blind or fiberoptic guided endotracheal intubation
List the 3 different types of iSADs
-LMA Fastrach
- Air-Q
-Aura-I
Where are iSADs indicated?
When difficulty with facemask ventilation or with TI occurs
It allows for continued ventilation and provision of anesthesia until TI is accomplished
What is another name for the LMA Fastrach?
Intubating LMA
When is the LMA Fastrach primarily used?
“Cannot intubate and cannot ventilate”
What is the benefit of a rigid curved design of the LMA Fastrach?
Allows the mask aperture to align with the glottis vestibule
List key features of the LMA Fastrach
1) Anatomically curved 13-mm internal diameter rigid airway tube that can accommodate an 8.5mm ETT
2) Guiding handle at the proximal end to facilitate insertion
3) Vertically-oriented semirigid epiglottic elevating bar
4) A guiding ramp built into the floor of the mask aperture
After successful ETT placement, why should the Fastrach be removed?
Avoidance of sustained pressure on the hypopharyngeal tissues.
Main differences between the air-Q and the Fastrach
The Air-Q is:
-Nonrigid
-Does not contain and epiglottic elevating bar
-Provides pediatrics, utilizing fiberoptic
-But comes with removal stylet for stabilization of the ETT while the device is being removed
