What is a cognate?
A word that is very similar between two languages: ie. Haus and house, Garten and garden, etc.
What is an idiom?
An idiom is an expression whose meaning as a whole differs from the meaning of the individual words.
For example:
stehen - to stand
Schlange - snake
Schlange stehen - to stand in line
What are the 8 parts of speech (classifications of words) in German?
Noun • Pronoun • Verb •
Adjective • Article • Adverb • Preposition • Conjunction
What is a common noun?
A noun that does not state the name of a specific person, place or thing
What is a compound noun?
A noun that is made up of two words, for example - video game or ice cream.

Pronouns and possessive adjectives
In German:
Nouns, pronouns, adjectives, and articles
What are the 6 basic categories of nouns?
A person, place, thing, animal, event/activity, and an idea/concept
