Q

What is are the 5 quality components that define usability?

A

Learnability: How easy is it for users to accomplish basic tasks the first time they encounter the design?

Efficiency: Once users have learned the design, how quickly can they perform tasks?

Memorability: When users return to the design after a period of not using it, how easily can they re-establish proficiency?

Errors: How manyerrorsdo users make, how severe are these errors, and how easily can they recover from the errors?

Satisfaction: How pleasant is it to use the design?

Q

What are the components of user testing?

A
  • Get hold of somerepresentative users, such as customers for an ecommerce site or employees for an intranet (in the latter case, they should work outside your department).
  • Ask the users to performrepresentative taskswith the design.
  • Observewhat the users do, where they succeed, and where they have difficulties with the user interface. Shut up andlet the users do the talking

Q

What are the key things to note about user testing?

A

To test users individually and let them solve any problems on their own
- Helping them would contaminate the test

To identify a design’s most important usability problems, testing 5 users is typically enough
- It’s better to run many small tests and revise the design between each one so you can fix it
- Iterative design is the best way to improve UX

Focus groups are a poor way of evaluating design usability

To evaluate interaction designs you must closely observe individual users as they perform tasks with the user interface.Listening to what people sayis misleading: you have to watch what they actually do.

Q

What are the differences between usability and UX?

A

-Scope:
- usability has narrow set of goals
- UX is concerned broadly with how a product behaves and is experienced by the user

  • Applicability:
    • Usability goals are mostly generic
    • UX goals are defined for each product and context
