Where are the thyroid and parathyroid glands located and why are they important
They are situated in the neck and they are important for metabolic rate and calcium homeostasis
Where is the pancreas located and what are its functions
Located in the abdomen- behind the stomach
endo&exocrine function produces insulin and, glucagon
Where are the adrenal glands located and what are their functions
- Lie on top of kidneys
- divided into an outer cortex and an inner medulla
- medulla is concerned with stress response, cortex with stress, sodium and glucose homeostasis.
What is the role of the gonads
Secrete reproductive hormones and responsible for the development of secondary sexual characteristics and reproduction
Describe the structure and properties of the peptide hormones
Water-soluble, susceptible to protease attack as they are a chain of AA, unable to cross the plasma membrane and acts on plasma membrane receptors.
