What is people first language?
People first language emphasizes the individual over their condition. i.e. Ken who has down syndrome would like to use the computer. vs. The down syndrome kid wants to use the computer.
What is a developmental disability?
Any mental or physical impairment that remains before the age of 22.
What is fetal alcohol disorder?
A group of conditions that can occur in an individual to a person whose mother drank during pregnancy
What are signs or symptoms of Fetal alcohol disorder?
Hyperactivity, learning disability, vision or hearing problems, problems with heart, bones or kidneys
What are the signs of Autism?
Avoiding eye contact and wanting to be alone, having trouble understanding others feelings, avoiding talking about their feelings, repetitive actions, having trouble adapting to certain routine changes
What is Cerebral Palsy?
Group of disorders that effect a persons ability to move, maintain balance, or posture. Symptoms can change in their lifetime.

What is Down Syndrome?
Genetic disorder resulting in an extra chromsome 21
What are the physical features of down syndrome?
Short height, web necked, slanted eyes, language delay, intellectually impaired. Some are healthy some have heart defects.

What is an SSA?
County board employee, a case manager that completes an assessment that helps determine what services the person can and should recieve. Works with individual, family, and providers. They may also find funding for services
What is an ISP?
Individual Service plan. Outlines services and support and how will DSPs provide those services
What is an IA?
County Board employee, council of government, main role is to investigate all MUI (MAJOR UNUSUAL INCIDENCE) . Investigate the cause and develop a plan so that it doesn’t occur again
What is an MUI?
An incidence that puts a person health and welfare at risk.
What is the difference between Agency service provider vs. Independent service provider?
Agencies employ 2 or more individuals in an agency to help service DD clients. Independent service providers work for and by themselves.
