System Internationale (SI)
The standard units for the measurement of fundamental quantities in science.
(mass - Kg, distance - m, time - second)
Factor - Label Method
Method used in this course to convert between units.
accuracy
An indication of how close a measurement is to it’s true value.
precision
An indication of the scale on the measuring device that was used.
Significant Figures
A digit within a number is considered to be a significant figure if:
- It is non-zero OR
- It is a zero that is between two significant figures OR
- It is a zero at the end of the number and to the right of the decimal point.
Adding / Subtracting with Significant Figures
Round the answer so that it has the same precision as the least precise measurement in the equation.
Multiply/Dividing with Significant Figures
Round the answer so that it has the same number of significant figures as the measurement with the fewest significant figures.
