Introduction to Paramedic Science Flashcards
Describe Anatomy
The structure and relationship of living things
What is physiology
The function of a living thing, how it works
What is pathophysiology
A disorder, disease or injury
Describe psychopathology
The study of symptoms, causes, development and treatments that cause mental health outcomes
What is aetiology

What is homeostasis?
Self-regulating systems (processes) in the body that help to maintain stability in the human body, such as adapting to surrounding areas.
E.g. dehydration, temperature (sweating/shivering)
Describe the 2 main ways to control homeostasis
Central Nervous System
Peripheral Nervous System
- Somatic
- Automatic (sympathetic/parasympathetic)
Describe the feedback system
- Stimulus
- Receptors
- Control centre
- Effectors
- Response
- Homeostasis
What is a disorder
Any abnormality of structure or function
What is a disease
An illness that has recognised symptoms
What is epidemiology
the study of how and why diseases happen and how they are transmitted
What is pharmacology
The study of drug use and the effects they can have during treatment
What is the axial region of a human?

What is the appendicular region of the human body
