Activity
Leads to or is a part of a meaningful occupation, but may not be meaningful on its own
Client
Includes patients in all settings; the person receiving OT
Contrived activities
Activities created with skills needed for an activity that help stimulate and prepare for the actual activity
Function
The goal of OT; the ability to preform a task
Goal
What the therapy sessions lead to; final goal is typically to function independently in an occupation
Independence
A client doing their occupation successfully on their own in a professional setting; a goal of OT
Media
Anything used to help clients complete tasks that lead to an activity
Occupation
Anything a client finds meaning in doing
Occupation-centered activities
Activities practiced in the client’s natural/ professional setting
Occupational performance
The ability to carry out an occupation in a professional environment
Occupational therapist (OT)
The “professional”; has more education and plans out the therapy treatment plan
Occupational Therapy (OT)
Therapy based off of engagement in meaningful activities
Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA)
The “technician” that carries out the treatment plan of the OT
Occupational Therapy Practitioner
A term that refers to both the OT and the OTA
Patient
The person receiving the OT in a hospital setting
