What are MS Excel and its uses?
A software program created by Microsoft that uses spreadsheets to organize numbers and data with formulas and functions.
What is a Spreadsheet?
A spreadsheet is a grid of rows and columns in which you enter text, numbers, and the results of calculations.
What is a Worksheet?

What is a Workbook?
A file used to store worksheets.
A workbook is a file that contains one or more worksheets to help you organize data.
What is an Active cell?
Cell is surrounded by a heavy black border.
Refers to the currently selected cell in a spreadsheet
What is a Formula bar?
Where data or formulas you enter into a worksheet appear for the active cell.
Displays a formula when a worksheet cell contains a
calculated value.
What is a Status bar?
The Status Bar is the area at the very bottom in Excel where various information about the current mode or any special keys that are engaged can be seen
Keeps you informed of what is happening as you work
What is a Name Box?
Displays the cell reference of the active cell.
It displays the address of the active cell. It displays the name of the cell, range or object selected if this has been named.
What is a Formula?
Is an equation that calculates a new value from values
currently in a worksheet.
Types of Data?
- Labels – text, symbols
- Values – numbers, date
- Formulas – Basic formula, functions

Types of Cell Referencing
Absolute reference and Relative reference
What is an Absolute Reference?
Remains constant throughout a copy operation
(in a column or row)
Specified with a dollar sign before the column and
row. Ex, $B$4
What is an Relative Reference?
Adjusts/change during a copy operation.
The reference changes based on a relative position of rows and columns.
By default, all references in Excel are relative
