Definition of law
- A command issued from a superior to an inferior and enforced by sanctions
- the body of principles recognised and applied by the state in the administration of justice
Types of law
International law and national law. National law is split into public law like criminal law, administrative law and constitutional law. & private law like family law, tort law, contract law, company law and many others.
What does tort law include?
personal injury and negligence
What does contract law include?
buying and selling
What does employment law include?
redundancy/ unfair dismissal
What does family law include?
divorce, splitting affairs, care of children
What does criminal law regulate?
Criminal law regulates conduct considered being against the state and the general interest of society
What does civil law regulate?
Civil law regulates individual conduct. Civil law helps maintain order by upholding individual rights by compensating the ‘victim’.
What are British Values?
‘democracy, rule of law, individual liberty and respect for all faiths and beliefs’.
