What goals does Occurrence Reporting achieve? (3)
municipal and provincial statistics aid:
- in understanding the fire problem and measuring impact of fires,
- fire prevention initiatives and
- identifying emerging trends or issues
What is an Occurrence?
an incident that results in a FD emergency response
What are the types of categories of occurrences for reporting purpose? (3)
- Fires and explosions- any instance of destructive and uncontrolled burning
- No loss outdoor fires- small uncontrolled fires that are easily contained and no loss result
- Other emergency response- all other call types
What legislation mandates the need for occurrence reporting?
Fire Protection and Prevention Act (FPPA)
Who is responsible for ensuring occurrence reporting? (2)
- FPPA 9 (2) (f,g) - duty of Fire Marshal to record all fires reported and maintain statistics and conduct studies in respect to fire protection service
- FPPA 11 (2,3) - all assistants to Fire Marshal to report all fires anf fire protection matters
Why is fire occurrence reporting important?
- no other source for fire reporting information
- it must come from FD personnel who attended the scene
