Introduction to chemistry Flashcards
Define the term ‘Chemistry’.
Chemistry is a branch of science concerned with the substances of which matter is composed, the investigation of their properties and reactions and the use of such reactions to form new substances.
How is Chemistry different from other branches of science?
Because the physical universe is so vast, there are many different branches of science. Thus, chemistry is the study of matter, biology is the study of living things, and geology is the study of rocks and the earth.
How is Chemistry similar to other branches of science?
Chemistry is what makes sciences like geology and biology possible. Chemical reactions are at the base of every living thing and present in every inch of the earth. Chemistry is also inextricably bound to physics. Atoms and molecules often obey some rules of physics while defying others.
