Planar / Azimuthal Projections

A

Flat plane that the Earth is projected onto from opposite end of the Earth, only one point of contact.

Used for polar stereographic charts

A

Piece of paper is wrapped around the earth with the earth projected onto it from the centre of the earth.

A
  • A conformal chart
  • Graticule must cross at right angles
  • Scale is the same or changes equally in all directions locally
  • Scale is correct and all angles are correct
  • Bearings are represented accurately
