  1. proximity seeking behaviour to primary caregiver - infant stays close to attachment figure
  2. separation anxiety and distress - both infant and caregiver experience distress on separation
  3. pleasure when reunited
  4. general orientation of behaviour towards primary caregiver - infant is aware of caregiver at all times and frequently makes contact for reassurance
