Introduction to Anatomy Flashcards
Exoskeleton
Harder supporting and protecting structures
Endoskeleton
Embedded in the tissue - skull ect.
Long Bones
Large bone, has the medullary canal
Flat Bones
Found at the belt of limbs ( scapula) and the facial bones
Irregular Bones
Located on median planes - considered short bones ( occipital )
Yellow Marrow
Rich in fat cells
Grey Marrow
not hematogenic, no fat, common in elderly
Bone Development: Intramembranous Ossification
bone derived from fibrous connective tissue matric ( facial )
Bone Development:
Endochondral Ossification
derived from cartilaginous connective tissue
Osteogenesis
a ct is transformed into osteoblasts and osseous matric - formation of lamellar bones
Osteolysis
To give spongy tissue - resistance to tensile and torsional loads from environment
Long Bones EX.
Humerus, radius, femur
Short Bones EX.
( no marrow capacity)
Sesamoid Bones - developed in the capsules of joints, diminish friction
Flat Bones EX
(thin and expanded in two directions)
Scapula, pelvic bones
Eminences
- Articular
Spherical Head - allows bones to contact one another
