Introduction And Explainatipn Of Axilla Flashcards
What is the axilla?
It is a pyramid shaped space between the upper part of the arm and the side of the chest. Important nerves, blood, and lymph vessels travel through it from the root of the neck to the upper limb.
What forms the base of the axilla?
The base is formed by the skin stretching between the anterior and posterior walls.
What bounds the anterior wall of the axilla?
The anterior wall is bounded by the pectoralis major, subclavius, and pectoralis minor muscles.
What bounds the posterior wall of the axilla?
The posterior wall is bounded by the subscapularis, latissimus dorsi, and teres major muscles.
What bounds the medial wall of the axilla?
The medial wall is bounded by the upper 4 or 5 ribs and intercostal spaces covered by the serratus anterior muscle.
What bounds the lateral wall of the axilla?
The lateral wall is bounded by the coracobrachialis and biceps muscles in the bicipital groove of the humerus.
What forms the anterior axillary fold?
The anterior axillary fold is formed by the pectoralis major muscle.
What forms the posterior axillary fold?
The posterior axillary fold is formed by the tendons of the latissimus dorsi and teres major muscles.
