Introduction Flashcards
What does the biological perspective look at?
How the brain controls behaviour
What does a hierarchy of organisation refer too?
All levels are connected
Any manipulation at any level can change the function at other and all levels of the hierarchy
What consists of the hierarchy?
Bottom:
genes, proteins, organelles, cells, brain regions, brain circuits, whole brain
What influences behaviour?
Evolutionary and genetic influences - species typical behaviour
Environmental and social influences
Previous experience (e.g. being raised in orphanages)
Current motivational state - hunger, sexual drives
Does the environment impact the brain or vice versa?
Both, they interact all of the time
some proteins may not be expressed due to the environment - epigenetics
