To use Apple operating systems, do you need an Apple ID or iCloud account?
No, but you will not have access to all apps and options.
What is an Apple ID?
- A registration for individuals.
- Stores information about you on the Apple system.
- Requires User ID and password.
What is an iCloud account?
Allows you to access multiple tools that allow you to synchronize and access your data over multiple devices.
What does an iCloud give you?
- An e-mail account
- A cloud storage tool
- iOS backup
- Sync contacts, calendars, reminders and notes
- iCloud photo library
- A back up solution for iPad and iPhone

Can Apple ID and iCloud account be the same account?
Yes, you can think of iCloud as an extra service added on top of an Apple ID login. The login is usually the same for both accounts.
What is the filing system in iOS called?
Finder
How do you get to Finder?
- Click on happy Mac icon in Dock.
- Click on the hard drive icon
What is Mission Control?
A way to move between current open applications.
What is Launch Pad?
An application to launch other applications
What are the primary interface tools on a Mac?
Windows and menus
How many applications can be active at one time?
One
What is Finder?
The application to navigate through the files and folders you have stored on your hard drive.
what is windows snapping?
A feature when moving windows around with a mouse, causes the windows to align. Mouse must be moved slowly. If done quickly, window will glide over another window.
Does clicking the red button in a window close the application?
No. Usually the window closes but application is still running. Note in dock, icon still has black dot indicating application is still active.
When does the red button close an application?
When the app only consists of one window, such as Contacts.
What does the yellow button in a window do?
It minimizes the window and placed a miniature image in the dock.
What does the green button do?
The application jumps to full screen. It is no longer in its own window.
When an application is in full screen mode (green button) how do you access the dock and menus?
By placing your mouse at bottom or top of screen.
How do you get out of full screen mode?
Place mouse at top of screen till menus appear, and then hit green button.
What is the tab function and where do you find it?
Many applications support tabs: the option to open a new window. The command to open a new tab is found in the menus above the window.
Note: There is a bar on top of the window that allows you to easily navigate between open tabs.
How to you close a tab?
Click on the “x” in the tab bar just below the menus.
Where is the command to open a new tab in applications that support tabs?
Usually it is in the file menu. But it may also be under view menu.
What is the systems menu?
It is to the left side in every menu bar and is the Apple icon.
What are general system tools?
Icons on the right side of the menu (task bar) that stay the same regardless of what application you are using.
What are system preferences?
A place on the Mac where you can set global preferences for the way things work on your Mac.
How do you access system preference commands?
Either through the Apple icon on the menu bar, the Systems Preference Icon in the dock or the Launch Pad icon
What is the finder?
The application you use to navigate through files and folders on your hard drive.
What corners of a window can you use to resize the window?
All corners
If a window does not have a gray bar at top, can it be moved around?
Yes, click and hold near top of window and move window.
If you hit the red button to close a window, does it quit the app?
No, app is still open.
What is the exception to the rule pushing the red button not quitting an application?
If the app only has one window, such as contacts, hitting the red button will close window and app,
What happens if you push the green button in the menu bar?
The window occupies the full screen. No menus, No scree.
How do you get out of full screen view?
Move arrow to top of screen to make menu bar appear and press green button.
Move arrow to bottom of screen to make dock appear.
What are two ways to open new tabs in Safari?
Go to view menu and press new tab command, or press the + sign in the upper right corner of the safari window.
Where do you find tabs in programs other than Safari?
Usually they are in the View Menu. But not all other programs offer tabs.
Where is the system menu?
Found by clicking the Apple menu in the menu bar.
What are modifier keys?
Keys you hold down to unlock another functionality.
