Introduction Flashcards
What is incisional biopsy?
Take small incision/piece of lesion that is greater than 1 cm.
What is Excisional biopsy?
Removal of entire lesion that is typically less than 1 cm.
What is an impacted tooth?
Tooth that fails to erupt within the expected time.
Which are most commonly impacted teeth?
Mandibular 3rd molars, max 3rd molars, and max canines.
What are the impacted angulations and which are most and least difficult to remove?
- Mesioangular (least)
- Horizontal
- Vertical
- Distoangular (most)
What is the Pell and Gregory Classification of impacted teeth? (ClassesI,II,III)
Class I: Normal position anterior to ramus
Class II: 1/2 of crown in in ramus
Class III: Entire crown embedded within ramus.
What is the Pell Gregory classificaton (A,B,C)?
Class A: Tooth at same plane as other molars
Class B: Occlusal plane of 3rd molars between occlusal plane and cervical line of 2nd molar.
Class C: 3rd molar is below cervical line of 2nd molar.
Unerupted teeth include what?
Both impacted teeth and still erupting teeth.
What are the classes of bone types?
I: Homogeneous compact bone
II: Thick compact bone surrounding trabecular core
III: Thin cortical bone surrounds trabecular core.
IIII: Thin cortical bone around spongy core.
What is Autograft, Allograft, Xenograft?
Auto: uses own tissue
Allo: cadaver tissue
Xeno: Tissue from another species.
What are BMP (bone morphogenetic protein)?
Induce bone formation to enhance graft healing.
