Introduction Flashcards
Vertical plane, equal right and left halves
Median Sagittal plane
Imaginary vertical plane at right angles to the median plane
Coronal planes
Vertical planes at right angles to median and coronal planes
Horizontal or Transverse planes
Refers to same side of the body
Ipsilateral
Opposite side of the body
Contralateral - left biceps brachii and right rectus femoris muscle
Prone
Lying face downward
Supine- lying on the back
Takes place on sagittal plane, usually anterior (sometimes posterior eg. Knee)
Flexion
Straightening the joint, usually posterior
Extension
Movement of trunk in coronal plane
Lateral flexion
Lateral rotation of the forearm from pronated position so the palm of the hand comes to face anteriorly
Supination
Pronation - medial rotation of the forearm in such manner that the palm of the hand faces posteriorly
Combination of flexion extension abduction adduction
Circumduction
Anatomic position
Standing erect, upper limbs by the sides, face and palm of the hands dircected forward
