INTRODUCTION Flashcards
4 building blocks of nursing informatics
1) Nursing Science
2) Computer Science
3) Cognitive Science
4) Information Science
Is the awareness and understanding of a set of information and ways that information can be made useful to support a specific task or arrive at a decision?
Knowledge
refers to applications (mostly technology based) that offer easily, accessible, accurate & timely information obtained from a variety of resources & methods & presented in a manner so as to provide the necessary elements to generate new knowledge.
Knowledge viability
Is the application of knowledge to an appropriate situation. Uses knowledge & experience to heighten common sense & insight to exercise sound judgement in practical matters.
Wisdom
Integrates nursing science, computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information, knowledge and wisdom in nursing practice
Nursing Informatics
Is the foundation of the art of nursing
Wisdom
Considered as knowledge disseminators
Nurse educators
Considered as the knowledge generators
Nurse researchers
They stated a key purpose : “to create a vision for the future of nursing that bridges the quality chasm with information technology, enabling nurses to use informatics in practice and education to provide safer, higher quality patient care”
TIGER
Informatics & healthcare technologies encompass five broad areas:
- Use of patient care & other technologies to deliver & enhance care
- Communication technologies to integrate and coordinate care
- Data management to analyze and improve outcomes of care
- Health information management for evidence-based care & health education.
- Facilitation & use of electronic health records to improve patient care.
seeks to prepare future nurses who will have the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to continuouly improve the quality & safety of the healthcare systems within which they work
