What do rules do?
Determine the way we behave.
Morals
Unwritten rules which appear within communities and come from local customs or practises.
Norms
Values, customs and traditions which represent individual’s basic knowledge of what others do and think they should do.
What does civil law aim to do?
Resolve disputes and protect individual’s rights
What does criminal law aim to do?
Maintain social order and seek justice for offences against the state.
Customs
Set of laws based on traditions, customs or norms of a local community.
Common law
English law that is derived from judicial precedent rather than statues.
Statue law
Law which is made by the Uk parliament.
