INTRODUCTION Flashcards
Photosynthesis
All living organisms require energy to survive. This energy comes from the breakdown of glucose in a
process called
respiration. Plants and animals differ in how they obtain this glucose
Plants are able to utilise light energy to make their own food. They do this by converting the raw
materials of carbon dioxide and
immediately into
water to glucose (sugar). The

This
process is called _pho os une thesis and it takes place in the leaves as they have the green pigment called
Chlomphil which traps light energy from the sun and this is needed to drive the process. Oxygen is a
waste product which is released back into the atmosphere.
