Introduction Flashcards
Context
The Black Civil Rights Movement (BCRM) of the 1950s and 60s in the USA emerged as a more coherent organisation than before, they were responsible for the organisation of many different prominent public events which highlighted the continuation of De Jure segregation in the South and De Facto segregation in the North. Despite this, the BCRM was divided on how to achieve their aim of equality, many neglected the methods of the non violent organisation to join black radicalism.
Factors
Some historians argue that the civil rights movements were successful in improving the lives of Black Americans, politically, socially and economically, whereas others argue that their success in these areas were limited.
Line of argument
This essay will argue that despite the BCRM fully improving the political of black American they failed to fully improved their economic and social status meaning they were not successful in improving the lives of black Americans during the 1950s and 1960s.
