Introduction Flashcards
What is DALY?
Disability Adjusted Life Year. It is a measure of overall disease burden. –> cumulative number of years lost due to ill healht, disability or early death.
Years lived with disability + Years life lost
How is Years Life Lost calculated?
N x L
N = Number of deaths
L = standard life expectancy at age of death in years
Policies with external safety get the focus, but air and noise pollution get ignored. Is this fair?
No, noise pollution and air pollution lead to much more DALY’s lost.
What is noise?
An audible air pressure difference. They travel with different winds and temperatures.
Higher temperature leads to a higher/lower soundlevel?
Higher, As the temperature rises, the air molecules gain kinetic energy, causing them to move more vigorously and spread out. –> higher sound levels
Does wind have impact on radiation or not?
Almost not. Wind moves the radioactive material or substance. This substance then starts to radiate somewhere else.
