Introduction Flashcards
INTRODUCTION
I have recently investigated the issue of smoking in Scotland. Smoking within Scotland is a very controversial problem as it’s the leading cause of death and major health issues. In this report, I will be investigating the issues with smoking and how they can be tackled.
INTRODUCTION (BK)
To start with, 24% men and 21% women in Scotland do smoke.
Smoking also leads to disability, disease and harms nearly every organ in the body – it is the leading cause of cancer, heart disease and stroke.
Furthermore, smoking costs NHS Scotland up to £780 million to treat tobacco-related illnesses, which would equate to 6.4% of NHS Scotland’s £13.2 billion budget. This money could be better spent on areas such as education if smoking was tackled better.
Also, smoking 1 cigarette a day will take 11 minutes off your life - that’s 14 days gone from smoking only 5 cigarettes a day over 1 year.
Overall, around 10,000 people die from smoking-related illnesses per year in Scotland.
INTRODUCTION (PURPOSE)
The purpose of this report is to find the best solution to tackle the smoking crisis in Scotland. In order to start to effectively tackle the smoking problem I will propose three options which all have their merits and demerits which will be discussed further in this report, they will have immediate impact and in decrease the number of smokers in Scotland.
