What the drug does to the body, biological & therapeutic effects & mechanism of action
What’s a drug ?
chemical substance that alters the body functions, and can be used in diagnosis, treatment or prevention of the disease, recognized by pharmacopeia.
What is pharmacokinetics ?
what the body does to the drug : mv & alterations of the drug by the body : Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Execretion (ADME).
types of drug nomenclature
Chemical : not used commonly.
Nonproprietary : official, approved.
Proprietary : commercial name.
What are essential medicines ? Examples ?
drugs that satisfy the priority health needs of the population.
EX: Aspirin /// Paracetamol /// warfarin
What are orphan drugs ?
Drugs for diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of a rare disease or a common disease in poor countries.
