Between 1906-1914 the Liberal Government passed a series of groundbreaking Social Welfare Reforms to support the old, the young, the, the unemployed, and the employed of Britain. These reforms marked a significant move away from the Laissez-faire policies of the past towards collectivism.

Some historians argue that the Liberal Party were heavily influenced by the changing nature of the Liberal Party, summed up as the growth of “New Liberalism” to alter the role of the Government and introduce reforming legislation, whereas other argue that concerns over poverty, the challenge of the Labour Party, and fears over national security and national efficiency were more important factors when explaining these reforms.
