Introduction Flashcards
Invented genetic mapping
A.H Sturtevant
What happens in recombination?
Genetic material is exchanged between two homologous chromosomes during cell division, leeading to genetic diversity. A new combination of alleles is produced.
Homologous phenotype and example
Homologous phenotype are traits or characteristics that have the similar function or appearance in different species due to shared ancestry. Such as the forelimbs of vertebrates of other animals; batwings or whale flippers have the same bone structures despite having different functions.
Tell me about the law of dominance
It states that one allele can mask the expression of the other. The dominant allele will be manifested while the recessive trait remains hidden unless both alleles are recessive.
Person who observed pea characteristics. (provide the year)
Gregor Mendel - 1865
Differentiate diploid from haploid
Diploid are cells that carries two copies of the gene whereas haploid are cells that carries one copy of the gene; applicable in gametes
