Introduction Flashcards
Context
Between 1906 and 1914, the Liberal government passed a series of ground breaking social welfare reform to support the old, the young, the sick, the unemployed and the employee of Britain. These reforms marked a significant move away from the laissez - faire policies of the past towards collectivism.
Factors
Some historians argue that the growth of “New Liberalism” was the most important reason for the passing of Liberal reforms, whereas others argue that concerns over poverty, the challenge of the Labour Party and fears over national security and national efficiency were more important factors when explaining these reforms.
Line of argument
This essay will consider these arguments in order to prove that the growth of New Liberalism was less important than concerns of poverty when explaining these reasons for Liberal Reforms.
